Took me ten days to recover from that dancing 🤣🤣🤣 teehee! Just kidding, ain’t had much to say so just been chilling 🧡✌🏽 watching, thinking, feeling... know that it’s ok to do that. You don’t always have to be a fountain of knowledge and a source of constant inspiration.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ {Yesterday} When your cousin is having a socially distanced birthday gathering in her garden and you don’t know wether to go because you’ve been isolating for months and months and the rain showers and cold winds are threatening to spoil the outdoor fun but you go anyway dressed up in all your layers because you need to feel alive and to find some joy... and then Joanna drops and you dance without a care in the world! Yeah. I needed that so much ☺️ Watch my mama join me at the end too, haha, I get all my moves from her! 🤣 obvs.

I’ve cried a lot over the last few days, tears o

I’ve cried a lot over the last few days, tears of distress, frustration and sadness... because to be silenced and censored for showing up as your true self hurts.
What can I say ~ I’m deeply sensitive ~ it’s a superpower not a weakness.
This may just be an app to some, but for me, it’s much more than that. I’ve invested years of my time and energy into connecting, creating and nurturing a community here, one built on honesty and love ~ anything that threatens that pathway of communication hurts.
So should I be grateful Instagram have given me my voice back?.. maybe but the betrayal I feel from a platform ‘I’ have given so much to hurts.
It should never have happened in the first place. They say it was ‘just a mistake’ an error in the system. I say your system is selective, oppressive and a little bit broken. Fix it. And give your black community the freedom we deserve ~ to speak our truth and to tell our stories.
So while I feel glad (but apprehensive) to be back, I’ll save my celebrations for when we can ‘all be free’ together.
Thank you for showing up for me in your thousands insta fam. Your love and support has filled my heart up and blown me away! Power to you (and my new bestie who went the extra mile for me, you know who you are) And hey, the disruption didn’t stop us raising 10k for Black Minds Matter UK! So that is something to celebrate! Serious question ~ because just sharing endless st

Serious question ~ because just sharing endless stories of other people’s content is the easy part and listening and learning is good but only if you follow it up with some positive action... I’m not here to judge or shame anyone but right now I feel the momentum is slowing, I see the posts returning to normal (and you know how I feel about anything normal ~ it only benefits those who fit neatly into a box which excludes way too many of us) Yes, it maybe tiring but some of you have only just begun, we’ve been living this life forever. We’ve been telling you forever.
I want to encourage you to keep the support going. Because we cannot go back to the way things were before, to a system that benefited some and oppressed others. We have to keep on moving forward.
Change won’t happen overnight and it will take more than sharing a quote to fix it. But carrying on like the work is done because you’ve had enough and you’re ‘listening and learning’ isn’t enough.
We need you to go the distance with us. You have to commit to the movement and the conversations need to continue beyond these squares too.
It’s time to use ‘those lessons you’ve learned’ to help uplift and liberate. So how will you integrate your allyship into everyday life? Love & light, Allison x x x

When the world feels tough ~ doing something positive always makes me feel better... :) This is just one of the things I plan to do to help uplift and support the wellbeing of our black community.
If you’re committed to listening & learning ~ then now is the time to take that thinking one step further and start DOING too.
